Sunday PeakSave Program: A Smart Way to Cut Your Energy Costs

In today’s world, where energy prices are on the rise, finding effective ways to save on electricity costs has become a top priority for many homeowners. British Gas, offers an innovative solution called the Sunday Peak Save program. In this blog post, we will explore the benefits of this program and how it can help you reduce your energy bills while contributing to a more sustainable future.

Understanding the Sunday Peak Save Program

Time-of-Use Tariffs

Time-of-use tariffs are pricing structures for electricity that vary based on the time of day. Instead of having a flat rate for electricity throughout the day, time-of-use tariffs divide the day into different time periods, each with its corresponding price per kilowatt-hour (kWh). These periods typically include peak hours, off-peak hours, and sometimes shoulder hours.

The purpose of time-of-use tariffs is to incentivize electricity consumption during periods when the demand on the power grid is lower. By charging higher rates during peak hours when the demand is highest, and lower rates during off-peak hours when the demand is lower, electricity providers aim to encourage consumers to shift their energy usage to non-peak periods.

The Sunday Peak Save program operates within this tariff structure, offering half-price on electric rates on Sundays.

Summer Sundays

There will be a PeakSave Summer Sunday event every weekend from now until 24th September. You don’t need to sign up to each one – if you’ve received an email from British Gas, They will automatically include you in every PeakSave Summer Sunday. During the five-hour events use as much electricity as you need. Your smart-meter will tell British Gas how much you used, and they will work out your credit.

Eligibility and Enrollment

Maximising the Benefits

Shifting Energy Consumption

This scheme is especially helpful while running your heavy duty appliances like the washing machine, dryers and ovens during these hours.

Smart Home Automation

Utilising smart devices, such as programmable thermostats or smart plugs, can greatly assist homeowners in optimising savings under the Sunday Peak Save program. These devices offer advanced features that allow for efficient energy management and scheduling of energy-intensive tasks on Sundays when electricity rates are reduced. Programmable thermostats, like Hive and Nest, smart home plugs, smart LED lights and smart radiator valves, along with energy monitoring can help maximise benefits.

Conclusion

The Sunday Peak Save program by British Gas presents an exciting opportunity for homeowners in the UK to lower their energy bills effectively. By leveraging the reduced electricity rates available on Sundays, you can take control of your energy consumption and make significant savings while contributing to a greener, more sustainable environment. Remember, in addition to participating in the Sunday Peak Save program, adopting energy-efficient practices and utilising smart home automation can further enhance your cost savings and overall energy efficiency. Embrace this innovative program and pave the way towards a brighter, more economical energy future.
